John Gilinsky Posted 29 April , 2010 Share Posted 29 April , 2010 Gruzenberg, Oskar Osipovich 1866 – 1940 “Yesterday: memoirs of a Russian-Jewish Lawyer.” (Translation of Vchera) Los Angeles, California: University of California Press Ltd., 1981 ISBN 0 – 520 – 04264 – 6 See especially Chapters 14 and 15: The Delirium of War, Parts 1 and 2 respectively. Only part of one of these chapters is digitized and available online here as: http://books.google.ca/books?id=PcIf_0GbTV...p;q&f=false This memoir is fascinating in providing an elite view of the social and legal problems caused by the war right from the start. I believe though I have not seen the entire work that the author was probably a military lawyer affiliated or even in the army. War crimes, atrocities, refugees, ethnic minorities, cossacks, social history are just some of the war related topics dealt with in a highly literate (undoubtedly polished or emigre) memoir. Highly recommended. John Toronto
