horatio2 Posted 28 April , 2010 Share Posted 28 April , 2010 The dates given are mis-leading. The Defence of Antwerp finished, so far as the Royal Naval Division was concerned, on 8 October 1914 when they were ordered to withdraw. Your grandfather was captured the following day, 9 October, when the train heading for Ostend was ambushed at Moerbeke. By 14 October they had been marched to the rear and were POWs in Doeberitz. horatio2 Posted 28 April , 2010 Share Posted 28 April , 2010 Two recommended books to give you the full picture. "The Royal Naval Division" by Douglas Jerrold and "Britain's Sea Sailors" by General Sir HE Blumberg (both in reprint or from a library).

John Morcombe Posted 29 April , 2010 Share Posted 29 April , 2010 RM medal roll indicates that he had left the Marines & was serving in the Army by 1921-23.
