2nd Gordons were part of the 7th Div. 20th Bgde. They attacked at Hulluch and the Quarries. The Gordons first objective was Breslau Trench. They reached the Lens- La Bassee road where they were joined by the supporting battalions. 20th Bgde were successful but the flanking units were not. this left them exposed so the advance ended for the day at the crossing of the Vermelles-Hulluch road crossed the Lens-Le Bassee Road. Later that night, German counter attacks forced the Gordons back. 7th Div casualties were 220 officers , 5004 O.R.s. That is killed, wounded and missing for the Battle of Loos. I cannot see a figure for the 2nd Gordons' casualties. All of that is from the OH.

I have a lengthy casualty list from the Scotsman of 26/10/1915 showing names of about 250 wounded from the 2nd Bn if this is of interest. Casualty lists were published about a month after an action so although it isn't shown as 'wounded from Loos', I'm pretty sure it is as it has a large list for the 6th Bn as well who were in the same Division. If you want it but can't access it yourself, send a PM and I'll forward the document.

Regards

Carolyn

Hi Simon

I've sent off the casualty list for the 2nd Bn wounded (Scotsman 26/10) and those killed (25/10/1915)

Simon,

Now that you've got the document from Carolyn, you might want to consider editing the post with your e-mail address. You never know who might be reading this

And, good luck with your research!
