His Medal Index Card on Ancestry lists him as entering theatre of war - France 25-7-1915, entitled to the 1915 Star trio plus MM. Ralph.

His MM card - possibly the only official place that his unit may be mentioned is on the National Archives website here:

Description Medal card of Slaney, Charles William

Corps Regiment No Rank

Royal Field Artillery 374312 Corporal

Date 1914-1920

Catalogue reference WO 372/23

Dept Records created or inherited by the War Office, Armed Forces, Judge Advocate General, and related bodies

Series War Office: Service Medal and Award Rolls Index, First World War

Piece Women's Services, Distinguished Conduct Medals and Military Medals

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...;resultcount=25

The date of entry MAY mean he was in the Artillery of 18th Division (82nd, 83rd, 84th or 85th Artillery Brigades) if he went overseas with a full unit rather than as a reinforcement.

EDIT:

Or the 18th Division Ammunition Column :D

London Gazette 24-2-1919

34312 Cpl. Slaney, C. W., 18th Div. Amn. Col. (Bakewell).

http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/311...upplements/1209

Which must mean the 26-9-1918 was the date of the deed....

Steve.
