apwright Posted 26 April , 2010 Share Posted 26 April , 2010 ... could not cross it, while another had already forced its way into Engländerhof. - For the first time the British responded to our fire in strength. Until now they had only ever done so in the following few days. So they had let themselves be deceived that a large-scale attack was intended! - I have just heard that 35 British soldiers were captured at Engländerferme and 6 in Wieltje. They are said to be very glad to be out of the mess, and to be able to satisfy their hunger. - The shooting is to go on into the night. - Things got lively near us once this morning for a short time. The enemy sent about 20 medium-heavy, and very loud, shells onto our reverse slopes about 300 metres south of us, in other words at a harmless distance. Again we experienced that peculiar spectacle of earth spraying up as high as a house when a shell hit, but only later hearing the whine of its approach and the explosion.
