roughdiamond Posted 19 April , 2010 Share Posted 19 April , 2010 I'm reading the book mentioned in the topic description and after he describes his view of the events involving the 8th Div on 01/07/1916 from his position as a Company Commander with 2nd Cameronians, he says there is "a remarkable German eye-witness account of the 8th Div's attack in the British Official History (vol. i, pp. 393-3)" and that it makes "harrowing reading". Anyone read this description and is there a version of it online? Cheers Sam

Andy Wade Posted 19 April , 2010 Share Posted 19 April , 2010 Thanks for that. He's talking about this set of lovely books then: British Official History Can't find one available online at the moment but will keep looking. Found this using a quote from it in Google: East Riding Library And this one's for sale here: Naval and Military Press And it's a snip for the whole reprinted set at £605.
