Remembered Today:

German eyewitness account 1st day of the Somme

I'm reading the book mentioned in the topic description and after he describes his view of the events involving the 8th Div on 01/07/1916 from his position as a Company Commander with 2nd Cameronians, he says there is "a remarkable German eye-witness account of the 8th Div's attack in the British Official History (vol. i, pp. 393-3)" and that it makes "harrowing reading".

Anyone read this description and is there a version of it online?

Cheers

Sam

152 of the Cassell Paperback version Andy, in the notes just before the section on "The move to the Loos Salient (July 2nd - 7th).

Thanks for that.

He's talking about this set of lovely books then:

British Official History

Can't find one available online at the moment but will keep looking.

Found this using a quote from it in Google:

East Riding Library

And this one's for sale here:

Naval and Military Press

And it's a snip for the whole reprinted set at £605.00
