ralphjd Posted 18 April , 2010 Share Posted 18 April , 2010 There must be some story behind this but we will never know, he died, (death registered Sept Qtr 1962 Surrey Mid Eastern), age 68. Must have been a weird experience seeing your name in the list of killed for the West Yorks if he ever did. Ralph.
kevin Posted 18 April , 2010 Share Posted 18 April , 2010 Two sets of Medals where issused for this man, one to the West Yorks and the other to the RFA. He admitted to desertion in 1935, his records are available. [Deserted in the field 13/10/1914, re enlisted RFA 5/8/1915] Regards as always Kevin
Chris_Baker Posted 18 April , 2010 Share Posted 18 April , 2010 I guess he was eventually officially accepted as "missing, presumed killed" while with the West Yorks, and that detail would have carried through to SDGW. It is interesting that it did not carry through to commemoration by CWGC for inscription on a memorial to the missing; especially so if his desertion only became known in 1935.
