CWGC, SDGW and Irelands Casualties database don't give Garbutt as the middle name for the RIR chap KIA in 1918.

Do you have any more info re the RIR chap?

that could be the case. A pity none of the databases confirm the middle name. One of the Scarborough War Memorial's does have an entry for an A G Cromack so this probably is the case.

There's a J W Cromack on this memorial too. He appears to be Cpl Joseph Cromack, MGC 23527 (formerly 1026 Yorshire Regt). His father appears to be an Arthur M Cromack (with a son Arthur) according to the 1901 census.

I should mention that in the 1901 census for the 2 Arthur Garbutt Cromack's, the Grandfather of the eldest Arthur is resident at the same address - Benjamin Garbutt, aged 82.

Based on the 1881 census, the Arthur M Cromack is the uncle of the eldest Arthur G Cromack.
