dunmore44 Posted 16 April , 2010 Share Posted 16 April , 2010 I have in my possession an old German Water bottle that was given to me by my mother-in-law. Inside the water bottle is an old envelope stamped 1976 and written on the reserve is the following: Found on the field at Mons In the 1st World War German Soldiers Water bottle 1916 Sgt William Badcock 1st KSLI who was wounded there Regular soldier from Boy Service later changed his name to "Addison" for family reasons. I know that the British were not at Mons during 1916 nor were the 1KSLI ever at Mons, So perhaps the location is wrong, but I have no reason to doubt the authenticity of the information, my mother in law was given the water bottle by a relative of Badcock's in the 70's and she wrote the details on the envelope at the time. I have since trace William Badcock and thanks to this forum have discovered that he was awarded the DCM My mother in law who lives in Shropshire was recently digging over her allotment when she found an old piece of trench art, it is a handmade aluminium identity tag, on it is engraved CSM GW Lloyd 7271 KSLI, I have again discovered that this man was awarded the DCM this time with the 2nd Btn. What a coincidence that both these items belonged to 2 DCM men.
