nf3996 Posted 14 April , 2010 Share Posted 14 April , 2010 My grandfather served in the Army Ordnance Corps during the First World War (027514, Pte Thomas George Alexander). He survived, although his papers didn't, and he was discharged in 1919. In an attempt to pin down his movements from conscription in 1916 to his discharge, this morning I had a look at the Absent Voters Lists for his home town, Wandsworth, for 1918 and 1919 (they are available on microfilm at the London Metropolitan Archives). The lists show his unit as AOC, 102nd S Co. Can anyone tell me what 'S Co' stands for, please? I'm guessing it might be 'Service Company', but I have no real idea. If my guess is correct, what would a Service Company have done, and is there any way I can track down 102nd S Co's movements between 1916-19? Many thanks, Alan

Stebie9173 Posted 14 April , 2010 Share Posted 14 April , 2010 Could it be Salvage rather than Stores? Steve.
madtaffy Posted 14 April , 2010 Share Posted 14 April , 2010 Hi no, always stores salvaged items would have been sent back to AOC, these items would have been repaired or scraped at workshops Ian
