Can anyone please help me with more precise location for the Battalion on Edwards date of death or even look into War diaries etc to see if mention of the incident is recorded at all. Any help gratefully recieved.

Enlisted: Swindon.

Occupation: Apprentice at No11 (Smiths) shop at GWR works.

Address / Next Of Kin, family details: Swindon. Son of Walter and Caroline of Station Road, Purton.

MIC details / Medal entitlement.

25383 8th (Service) Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment.

British War Medal, Victory Medal.

25/03/1917 Killed in a dugout with 2 other men by a German shell. His C/O stated that he was a good man and

brave soldier.

Death / Burial / Memorial details.

Killed in action on Kemmel hill aged 19 on the 25th March 1917. Buried in KLEIN-VIERSTRAAT BRITISH CEMETERY, Grave Ref: I. D. 1. (Flanders, Belgium). The memorial book in St Mary’s states aged 21. Headstone inscription reads “HE DIED FOR US, FROM MAM”. Edward is listed on Swindon`s Roll of Honour.

Evidence for inclusion on the Purton Parish list: Purton War Memorial (Recorded as E.WILLIAMS), Memorial Board in St Mary’s Church, name listed in the Memorial book in St Mary’s Church, SDGW listing.

He's not listed on Swindon ROH (unless he's been added as EA or J Williams)

He is on the GWR ROH

For an address I got - Son of Mrs. C. Williams, of 53, Telford Rd., Rodbourne Rd., Swindon, so maybe Dad died as well
