gdawson Posted 12 April , 2010 Share Posted 12 April , 2010 Can anyone tell me what Blue or Red chevrons were/are? My Grandfather was given four and one respectively of these during his service.

Stebie9173 Posted 12 April , 2010 Share Posted 12 April , 2010 The first chevron was awarded for arrival in an overseas theatre of war (red if during 1914, otherwise blue). Each 365/366 days after that spent overseas after that (up to one month of leave to the UK counting as overseas) meant another blue chevron was awarded. If a man went overseas on, say 15-8-1914, the chevrons would be awarded as follows: e.g. 15-8-1914 (one red chevron), 15-8-1915 (first blue), 15-8-1916 (second blue), 15-8-1917 (third blue), 15-8-1918 (fourth blue).
