Perth Digger Posted 11 April , 2010 Share Posted 11 April , 2010 Can anyone please help me find this man's MIC? I've looked on Ancestry but no luck. He succeeded to the title in October 1915 and was Lt, Capt and eventually Lt Col. He served in 26/Royal Fusiliers (Bankers), at least as Lt and Capt. Twice wounded. Hywyn Posted 11 April , 2010 Share Posted 11 April , 2010 Can't see him there or on the NA Did he go overseas? Another possibilty is ..did he have a name change when he succeded the title. He may be under a previous name? There is a Walter Vincent Aston. Hywyn
Perth Digger Posted 11 April , 2010 Author Share Posted 11 April , 2010 Hi Hywyn Thanks for looking. He was overseas, in France with 26th Royal Fusiliers and wounded at Flers, 15-16/9/1916. I got his name from the War Diary, which has Lt Sir Walter Aston Blount, Bart. Burke's Peerage says he was wounded then (and again later). Can't see him there or on the NA Did he go overseas? Another possibilty is ..did he have a name change when he succeded the title. He may be under a previous name? There is a Walter Vincent Aston. Verrico2009 Posted 11 April , 2010 Share Posted 11 April , 2010 Yes, very elusive! I've looked at the Aston MIC too but since his mother applied for his medals in 1924 I'd assumed he didn't survive. It certainly sounds as though Sir Walter served abroad:- Sir Walter Aston Blount, 10th Bt. gained the rank of Acting Lieutenant-Colonel. He gained the rank of Temporary Captain in the service of the Royal Fusiliers. He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded twice. He succeeded to the title of 10th Baronet Blount, of Sodington, co. Worcester on 26 October 1915. http://thepeerage.com/p16646.htm I'm just wondering if his peerage meant he didn't get an MIC - can't imagine why not! Perhaps they're kept somewhere else? Longboat Posted 11 April , 2010 Share Posted 11 April , 2010 IIRC Did not officers have to apply to receive their medals? I could be wrong. Stuart
Hywyn Posted 11 April , 2010 Share Posted 11 April , 2010 That may very well be the answer Stuart. Most, if not all, those that I have looked at indicate that they have been applied for. Hywyn
