Hi there

Just wondered if any of the clever members here could help me out with a whereabouts? I read somewhere that the 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers were based in Norfolk from the 8th-18th August 1914 and hoped someone would be able to tell me where exactly.

Many thanks

Rory

Rory,

Here is a little something from Ray Westlake's book (British Battalions in France & Belgium, 1914) to get your thread going, "Dover. Part of 12th Brigade, 4th Division. Moved by train to Cromer (8th), Norwich (10th). Entrained for Wembley (18th) and moved into camp at Neasden. Left Wembley by train (21st) and sailed from Southampton to France (22nd). Arrived Havre (23rd) and to rest camp." I'm sure others on the forum will be able to give you more information.

Regards,

Dave

The 'offical version' of what happend to 2nd R Innis Fus in March 1918 is online (go to my Ballymena link/look for tab 'Ulster Division'/ go to relevant side bar.

However, would strongly recommend a view of Martin Middlebrook's Kaiser's Battle for a much more accurate picture. Hope this helps.
