SPOOKER Posted 7 April , 2010 Share Posted 7 April , 2010 Would like to know if Lance Corporal James Joseph Nacey 7465 (2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment) was a Catholic,he is not on the Catholic Roll Of Honour in York and one of his relatives thinks he was a catholic and wants him on it,dont know if his Service Records survived or not but they may help if anyone has access i would be grateful, as he deserves to be remembered properly. He was killed in action 19 December 1914 and is honoured on the Touret Memorial. Cheers John.
roughdiamond Posted 7 April , 2010 Share Posted 7 April , 2010 Doesn't look like there's a service record, if you know his parents names, you maybe better checking the 1901 or 1911 census. Sam

mmm45 Posted 8 April , 2010 Share Posted 8 April , 2010 Theres a John Naceys record on Ancestry he was originally 2 WYR lived Elvington Terrace York and had 7 children!!! Discharged via Labour corps and survived. But no sign of a James Joseph Nacey on census..theres also a John Nacey born York c 1883 in the KOYLI at pontefract on 01 census. So just a MIC and SDGW hes listed on York and Great War website but no additional info. You may have to see if theres an obituary in local papers of the time. I checked ancestry under wildcard Nac** and nothing came up also Macey and Nas** Ady
kevin Posted 8 April , 2010 Share Posted 8 April , 2010 Enlistment Year of 1904. If he was a Roman Catholic, he will be listed in the Baptismal Records, try looking in the local Archives at York or the Catholic Archives, this will give you the required information. Regards as always Kevin
