Vimyridge Posted 6 April , 2010 Share Posted 6 April , 2010 Recently there was a posting on the CEF Great War forum about WW1 chinstraps. As I am unable to post multiple photos in one posting on this forum (I wish the moderators would change this restriction as I would post more often) I have decided to link it from here. Wardog Posted 6 April , 2010 Share Posted 6 April , 2010 Good info. Roger. I posted a cap thought to be a copy at the end of this post. http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...=140656&hl= The chinstrap does not have a rivet, so does that shows it is also a copy? Also regards the rivet, could they be both brass and steel? Cheers, Paul.

dutchbarge Posted 7 April , 2010 Share Posted 7 April , 2010 Very interesting thread...thanks! On the issue of ORs chinstraps being worn by officers, I've two examples in my collection of vetted WW1 caps (and their original British officer owners) which have OR's chinstraps on otherwise osd bespoke caps. Both are floppy 'trench caps'. While they most definately look like they are original to the caps, I've always wondered whether or not came this way from the tailor or were replaced somewhere along the long, long trail. Cheers, Bill
