eparges Posted 5 April , 2010 Share Posted 5 April , 2010 Hi, I just purchased this RND captally, never handled one before, so i'd be interested in your opinions...real deal? Thanx!
high wood Posted 6 April , 2010 Share Posted 6 April , 2010 It looks real enough to me. The golden wire thread looks to be of the right type for the period.

eparges Posted 7 April , 2010 Author Share Posted 7 April , 2010 Thanx for sharing your opinions Are they (relatively) 'common' in the UK, never seen one before over here...Anyone got an idea where I could find a WW1 sailorscap (think it will be a blue one, the khaki ones are probably rare..) Krithia Posted 7 April , 2010 Share Posted 7 April , 2010 Relatively rare, yes. About 20 years ago a sack containing about 200+ RND cap tallys came onto the market, but since then they are becoming difficult to find. As to naval caps the WW1 versions are rare and as to a khaki version, I have never seen one apart from those in period photos. The khaki naval cap is one of those holy grails for the RND collectors. Good luck.
ARABIS Posted 8 April , 2010 Share Posted 8 April , 2010 Here's one I bought at a militaria fair a few years ago, which looks similar. David.
eparges Posted 8 April , 2010 Author Share Posted 8 April , 2010 Thanx Kritia, the quest begins (being realistic, it will be for a blue one ) David, appears to be identical to mine, weave of the lettering on the back etc. Thanx all for your input, I'm reassured now
