centurion Posted 4 April , 2010 Share Posted 4 April , 2010 It has always amazed me as to the degree that the French were able to restore shattered towns and cities back to their original state - no Coventry Cathedral monstrosities for them (mind you I'm not sure that that would be the case today). River97 Posted 5 April , 2010 Share Posted 5 April , 2010 Ah yes, a bit more reference material to the library. Thanks, cheers Andy.
Martin Bennitt Posted 5 April , 2010 Share Posted 5 April , 2010 It has always amazed me as to the degree that the French were able to restore shattered towns and cities back to their original state - no Coventry Cathedral monstrosities for them (mind you I'm not sure that that would be the case today). Indeed, but some places were ugly to start with and were rebuilt ugly, with some particularly hideous churches. I don't know what input local people had with regards to the reconstruction, or whether they tended to want their town/village exactly as it was before cheers Martin B
