high wood Posted 3 April , 2010 Share Posted 3 April , 2010 I have been busy reframing this amazing coloured photograph of a soldier from Surbiton. It struck me that the retoucher has used a certain amount of artistic licence on the medal ribbons. The first is obviously the 1914 or 1914/15 Star, the second looks familiar but I cannot place it, the rest look to be c/o Walt Disney. Unless of course you know different. Rob B Posted 3 April , 2010 Share Posted 3 April , 2010 A bit of true art, we know what they are meant to be but the second looks like a UN Kosovo but we know It isn't before someone leaps in!! Yes it's the BWM and Victory medal.
Staffsyeoman Posted 4 April , 2010 Share Posted 4 April , 2010 I'd say equal licence has been applied to the buttons.... (General pattern I'd say)
27thBN Posted 4 April , 2010 Share Posted 4 April , 2010 Yes i have a few paintings of soldiers that not correct seems to be a license a few painters had. MC
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 6 April , 2010 Share Posted 6 April , 2010 At least it dates the picture to after the ribbon was available.
Patrick ODwyer Posted 6 April , 2010 Share Posted 6 April , 2010 Do we know the date of the picture? Could it have been after the Star ribbon was determined but before the other two. Maybe they just heard the Victory ribbon 'would be like a rainbow'?
