paul1947 Posted 3 April , 2010 Share Posted 3 April , 2010 I am trying to find some info re Cpl Archibald Smith who was serving with the Royal Engineers at the time of the 1911 Census. Unfortunately I do not have his corps / Regiment number but he was based at Brompton , chatham in 1911 and his trade was - Engine Fitter. Any help greatly appreciated Rgds Paul Evans
Verrico2009 Posted 3 April , 2010 Share Posted 3 April , 2010 Hi Paul, From around 15 MICs in this name, I can only find this man who has "II Cpl" on his card:- Name: Archibald T Smith Regiment or Corps: Royal Engineers, Royal Engineers Regimental Number: 3228, 412380 http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...Edoc_Id=5472344 No doubt an expert will give an opinion on the possibility of the numbers being correct. If it is him, a few discharge papers have survived:- Name: Archibald Tennock Smith Document Year: 1919 Regimental Number: 412380 Regiment Name: Royal Engrs Louise
paul1947 Posted 4 April , 2010 Author Share Posted 4 April , 2010 Hi Louise, I do not have a great deal to go on here. I have a marriage cert for Archibald Smith and my Gt Aunt Rosella Cross. They married 4 Dec 1917 in Folkestone , Kent. In rank / profession it states Soldier G.F.A so I am really starting right at the beginning with Archibald apart from the 1911 census return which also shows him in Kent. Anyway - thanks for your help. Regards Paul
