jnickwilliams Posted 2 April , 2010 Share Posted 2 April , 2010 I am trying to find some information on the military career of Alfred Thomas Clark (1890-1918): his medal roll states that he was in the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry, private, reg. no. 13623. Is it possible to discover from this which battalion, when and where he joined? At some point he joined the 2/4 Bn. Hampshire Regiment with reg. no. 27350: again, any ideas when this might have been? He was killed in action on 4.11.1918 and is buried at Ruesnes Communal Cemetery. regards, Nick

sotonmate Posted 3 April , 2010 Share Posted 3 April , 2010 Nick His Medal Index Card shows both Regiments, DCLI first and then Hants. Date into first war theatre was 5.8.1915 France, but it doesn't equate to the first arrival there of any Battalion,so he would have been in a replacement batch for casualties. You can get the DCLI Battalion from the original medal Rolls at Kew. It is also likley that he was wounded/sick,which could account for the change of Regiment,as he would probably have returned when fit to the next most needy draft.
