The eldest son maybe named Charles Walmer Harcourt b about 1895,they had strong connections to England,South Africa and Australia.

They served in the WW1 African Campaighn.

May also be related to the James Jennings family of the Blaauwbank Gold Mine dynasty, Magliesburg,Africa.

Here one likely candidate:

Charles W HARCOURT has three entries on one Medal Card:

Private R/42898 King's Royal Rifle Corps

Private R/42898 15 Battalion London Regiment

540473 15 Battalion London Regiment

There is no other information on the card other than his original Medal Roll details, TP15/101B4 page 570,which will show the Battalion he served in when first into a War Theatre,it's going to be the KRRC,but we don't yet know which Battalion. He also didn't go until after Dec 1915.There are members here who can tell you when he joined from his number.

The ledger for the original medal Roll is at Kew Archives under WO329/1952.

Thankyou for your reply.

This could well be Charles Walmer Harcourt.

*******

Tell me if this could be the same person Charles Walmer (Harcourt) Ascroft Royal Army Service Corps,T4/253152,Sergeant 1914-1920.

WO 372/24,372/1.

Awarded the Meritorious Medal/East Africa, date of Gazette 7/2/19/ also recieved the Vistoria madal.

What does this all mean,

Registered paper 0137/5353

(underneath this is written 68 regt No 37 d 1/11/55,

There is also a red stamp mark with this info on,

IVA 986/25 Aug 1944,

Application for replacement

BM 18188.

Bit of a mystery this one as its been suggested these two persons are one of the same.

I am looking for any clues as this Harcourt was an heir to a Noble family.

Regards.
