ymfmitchell Posted 2 April , 2010 Share Posted 2 April , 2010 I have a photograph of my grandfather taken post WW1 - he enlisted in 9th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers - on uniform he is wearing the ribbon of the 1914-15 star - his uniform also has collar dogs - would anyone please be able to tell me when this regiment would first have been issued with collar dogs and or/ when a soldier would have been given the ribbon of the 1914-15 star to sew on to his uniform Yvonne
Muerrisch Posted 2 April , 2010 Share Posted 2 April , 2010 Because the ribbon is identical to 1914 star, issued late 1917/ early 1918, this is the earliest date possible. Many units [ie battalions] of various regiments wore collar badges, despite the folk-lore that this was extremely rare. You need a regimental expert for any sort of an answer to this aspect.
