stephen p nunn Posted 2 April , 2010 Share Posted 2 April , 2010 Morning all. A friend has just got hold of a collection of 21 postcards sent from a Private "Jack" Batson (030186) to his wife Laura whilst he was on Active Service in France. The cards start on 3/9/1917 and the last one is dated 27/8/18. Checking on his service number it looks like he was in the RAOC and his real name was Jon B. Batson. He was entitled to the pair. It looks like he survived the war but I can't find anything else. The cards indicate that he might have had a son (whom he refers to as "sonny"). Other names get a mention - Herbert and Liz, Fred ("poor old Fred pn 3/1/18), Ted (who "called a meeting of creditors") and "Old Dad". In September 1917 Laura and "sonny" visited Norwich. Jack's birthday was in April. In France Jack talks about how bad the weather was - "cold" in October 1917 then "rain". He "went into town" on 14/10/17 but no clues where. Anyone have any other information/thoughts/leads? Thanks all. SPN Maldon
