rksimpson Posted 30 March , 2010 Share Posted 30 March , 2010 HI all Have a pair and MIC to Charles in the Royal Engineers, with his number being 263858. Does this mean he was a Territorial and joined after the renumbering? Looking through LLT on renumbering the sequence goes from 400001 to 574000, so how does his number fit in?? Any hints to his regiment etc would be appreciated regards Robert
SteveE Posted 30 March , 2010 Share Posted 30 March , 2010 Royal Engineers, with his number being 263858. Does this mean he was a Territorial and joined after the renumbering? Robert In a word, No. The number 263858 (with no WR/ prefix) is indicative of a number allocated to the 'regulars' for want of a better word, be it for the duration of the war or otherwise. From a few numbers around 263858 that I've had a look at it appears they were Derby Scheme men enlisted in November/December 1915 and being called up late March/early April 1917. As the numbers weren't issued in blocks to RE units I wouldn't care to guess at which particular RE unit he ended up with. Regards Steve
