stephen p nunn Posted 27 March , 2010 Share Posted 27 March , 2010 Picked up a pair of "dog-tags" yesterday (in Ypres) to A.V. Davis RFA (129454). Have found his medal card indicating he was called Albert and that he was a Driver but can't find anything else. Does anyone know anything more about him please/his service (based on his number etc)? Many thanks. SPN Maldon
River97 Posted 27 March , 2010 Share Posted 27 March , 2010 Mal, There are two sets of service records on Ancestry, one of 8 pages and the other of 4 pages. The service number doesn't show up until about page three, but it's there. Cheers Andy.

stephen p nunn Posted 27 March , 2010 Author Share Posted 27 March , 2010 Great - thanks Andy. I am on to it now. All the best. SPN Maldon Located the records - great stuff. Born (1891) and lived in Nottingham - the son of a school teacher (John Davis). Service with the BEF from 25/11/16 and with the 46th North Midland Division RFA. Survived and discharged 1919. How on earth did his tags end up in a sweet tin in a shop in Ypres! Regards. SPN Maldon
CROONAERT Posted 5 May , 2010 Share Posted 5 May , 2010 How on earth did his tags end up in a sweet tin in a shop in Ypres! Probably because I sold them in Ypres last July! (Shop next to the Menin Gate by any chance?...or had they moved them on first?) Dave
