John_Hartley Posted 26 March , 2010 Share Posted 26 March , 2010 Salfordian Thomas Ryder was an original "Manchester Pal", training with the 21st Battalion's 5 Platoon, "B" Company, going overseas on 10 November 1915. Here's the relevant extract from the Battalion history about the tour of duty during which he was killed: "On the 24th the battalion relieved 2nd Borders in the trenches, a tour of duty which lasted until the 27th. During this time enemy artillery was fairly active and besides 2nd Lieutenant W Yarwood wounded the battalion had 12 killed, 18 wounded and 8 missing. The battalion was relieved on the 27th and marched back to Courcelles."
