On May 15th The Lincoln and North Lincs Branch of the WFA will be holding a rededication service for the newly cleaned and restored Thorpe Le Fallows Cross. The Thorpe Cross stands alone in a field away from this small Lincolnshire hamlet and had been forgotten and neglected for some 40 years. The 8 men who died in WW1 and 1 from WW2 who are remembered on this cross are to be celebrated in a small exhibition after the service. Therefore, and I know its a long shot, but does any one have a verified photo of:

Pvt F S Burkitt 50630 Notts and Derby Rgt, Lt R A Preston E/1315 Lincs Rgt (Attd RFC), Pvt H Sanderson 242129 The Border Rgt, Pvt G Bradley 200959 Lincs Rgt, Pvt F Baldock 25271 Gdr Guards, Cpl A E Goddard 200855 Lincs Rgt, Pvt W Martin 202130 Lincs Rgt and finally for WW1 Pvt J T Jackson Lancs Fus ( We have a photo!!)

The WW2 soldier is Pvt J Clayton Lincs Rgt kia 8/2/44.

Any help with a photo of these men or their head stones would be greatly appreciated. If you need any more info please pm me.

Thank you

Burkitt - New Irish Farm Cemetery

Preston - Sezanne Communal Cemetery

Sanderson - Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt L'Abbe

Bradley - Vis-en-Artois Memorial

Baldock - Mory Abbey Military Cemetery

Goddard - Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension

Martin - Fouquieres Churchyard Extension

Jackson - Skew Bridge Cemetery (Gallipoli)

These are the cemeteries or memorials of the men in post 1 should anyone be going to F and F with camera in tow. I believe I have just missed Sharpshooters offer to take photos. Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

You have one Martin, but not his brother?

For WW2 does Scampton come under your wing?

Hi, Thanks for your reply. You are correct with the Jacksons. Our T le F man is 39303 buried St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen and he is the only one we have a photo of so far. (my silly error)

Newport is an inner city district of Lincoln. Certainly Martin's family hailed from there. T Le F is some 5/6 miles north of Lincoln and is just west of RAF Scampton.

The one WW2 name on the T Le F cross is J Clayton of the Lincs Rgt - he was killed in Italy in 1944.

There are still many Burkitts in the area out towards Snaith Park and one at Willingham by Stow. Perhaps an ad in the Echo or try Radio Lincolnshire.

The one that lives at Willingham actuially lived at Thorpe until about 10 years ago.

Have you tried your local newspaper archives from the time of the Great War? Or your local library might hold newspapers on microfilm. I only ask because that is the basis for the project I'm doing and every week our local newspaper ran pictures of the men who were killed, wounded or posted missing. They did this for the whole war period. During the worst times, there was a whole page of pictures of the men every week and I have over 2200 photographs.

Thanks Andy and Roop - I will contact the Echo asap on both fronts as you suggest.

Well, if you're very lucky the library will have all the war related names listed in an alphabetical card index, made up by the local Family History Society many years before.

You have no idea how easy that has made my job. Or maybe you do... :)
