Hi everyone

OK heres what I now know...

My great grandfather Edward Ainsley served in 242 MG in the "divisional troops" section of the 2nd Division along with the 10th batt Duke of Cornwalls Lt inf...

he is listed on a database with this MGC on the 17th July 1917 when it joined 2nd Div

Has anyone got any ideas or info on this particular MGC, movement, brigades it was attached to etc etc

anything would be greatly appreciated...

am i way off by thinking that they might have been sent with the 10th bat DOCLI as they were also in this support brigade...

i'm stuck! :(

eternally, I see what you mean but it is not a "support brigade". The 10th DCLI was under divisional command as its pioneer battalion, and 242 Coy was added to the division as the fourth MGC company. The two were not connected other than being in the same division. 242 was not under a brigade command, other than possibly for temporary requirements. It would have participated in the Battle of Cambrai as a company, but fought for much of 1918 as a merged company of 2 Battalion MGC.

Can I please suggest to the duty moderator that these separate threads be merged into one to avoid duplication of effort

Glad it is of use. I do intend to do the same for every MG Coy and Bn but it's a time-consuming task but at least I know it's not thankless!
