I'm researching a man KiA with the 13th Yorkshire Regt on 9th Jan 1917.

Please can anyone tell me where they were and what they were doing?

Hi Roy,

According to the Regimental History by Wylly, page365:

"The opening days of the year 1917 found the battalion occupying the support position in the Bouchavesnes sector, but on the night of the 5th January it took over the front line. The state of the ground here was appalling, the mud being anything from knee to waist-deep, and it was neccessary to keep to the overland duckboard track to make progress to and from the line at all possible, while the ground was everywhere pitted with shell-holes, made in the previous heavy fightong in this region. On The 12th of January the Brigade went up to the Rancourt sector, on the left of Bouchavesnes,---"

I am afraid that is all there is. I hope that it helps?

Robert,

That's fine, many thanks. I'm researching the men on Wolverhampton's only remaining street shrine and Pte. Edward Morgan was with that outfit when he died.

Thanks again.
