snailybailey Posted 22 March , 2010 Share Posted 22 March , 2010 Hi, Can anybody show me an example of what cap badge a Captain of the Manchester Regiment would wear? I presume it would differ from the one worn by OR's? Ta Glyn
Andrew Upton Posted 23 March , 2010 Share Posted 23 March , 2010 Can anybody show me an example of what cap badge a Captain of the Manchester Regiment would wear? I presume it would differ from the one worn by OR's? Yes, but only in the finish - OR's badges were typically bi-metal or gilding metal that would need to be polished, Officers badges were typically a blackened or bronzed finish. The standard Manchester Regiment cap badge (excepting certain volunteer battalions and similar which used slightly modified forms) would have appeared as follows: http://cgi.ebay.com/The-Manchester-Regimen...=item563696ce9d
max7474 Posted 23 March , 2010 Share Posted 23 March , 2010 The badge shown in the link is an other ranks badge and not an officers. As an aside ebay is not a good souorce as it is full of fakes, bad information and sellers claiming all sorts of outlandish things. I am sure Harribobs will be much happier if this example of an Officers badge is used from his excellent collection: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...%26tbs%3Disch:
Andrew Upton Posted 23 March , 2010 Share Posted 23 March , 2010 The badge shown in the link is an other ranks badge and not an officers. Hence my big initial mentioning of blackened bronze finish for Officers in my original post for clarity. And as the poster only wanted to know what the badge looked like, whether it is a copy or not is irrelevant - it is the standard pattern Manchester regiment cap badge. HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 23 March , 2010 Share Posted 23 March , 2010 It is SIMILAR to the ORs Badge in design but IIRC Has sunbursts from the Globe??? [as well as being Bronze for SD]

[as well as being Bronze for SD] Apart from being much better in terms of quality and detailing, there don't appear to be any other major differences between the Officers and OR's design: http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aVSr_IS
