Hi All

I am trying to locate where this man was from.

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...asualty=1765871

I am researching a local war memorial in Liverpool and believe he is the man listed there. I have not been able to find any address linking him to the area.

Im looking for Old Swan, Stanley, Liverpool as my area.

SDGW dont seem to list areas for officers. Any ideas where I could try please. I have checked the local press and have not spotted him.

Cheers

Ant

A quick look at TNA site suggests he was a Pte in the Lpl Regt before being commissioned.

His records are probably either

WO 339/63900

or

WO 374/50947

the latter more likely as he was in a TF Bn

Charles Nott, born about 1891, was the eldest son of Mrs Nott of 37, Kremlin Drive, Stoneycroft, near Liverpool.

Formerly Pte 2247 of the 1/9th King's Liverpool Regt., he enlisted on 6th August, 1914, going to France with the battalion on 12/03/15. He was discharged to commission 18/04/15.

He was killed in action at Loos 08/10/15.

There is an obituary for him in The Times 23/10/15.

Hi Ant,

There is a Charles Nott on the 1901 Census listed 95 Moscow Drive, West Derby (Parish of St. Mary the Virgin, West Derby, Bootle Parliamentary Division). Born AMJ 1891, son of Katie.

He is the only one in Lancashire. Still in West Derby in 1911.

A good chance he's your man.

The Times is online, but you generally need a subscription. I don't have one, but I did have a free trial some time ago, which is when I saw the obit. As I recall, there was nothing more than I have posted above other than that he "was in business in Liverpool".

Ant

hello again

If you have a Liverpool Library card, you can get a code number from any library to have access to their computers. You can use the combination of the barcode on the card and the code number, through the Central Library's website, to get access to The Times, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Who Was Who and others.

Let me know when you get all this together and I can guide you through.

Thanks Daggers.

I better hurry up as the Liverpool records office is closing at the end of May for building work. They reckon up tp 3 years.

Thank you Daggers.

I have recieved it.

Very good of you, much appreciated.

I notice Charles signed up as a Private in August 1914 yet is a Lieutenant by April 1915. Was it the Norm for someone to rise through the ranks that fast?

Thanks again for all the help everyone.
