Guest J.Marshall Posted 19 March , 2010 Share Posted 19 March , 2010 Can anyone help me place this young soldier's uniform? I know he served in The Scottish Rifles in WWI in his late thirties, but this was taken much earlier. The 1901 census has him stationed at Aldershot with S Battery, Royal Horse Artilliery age 23. Any ideas or information much appreciated.

max7474 Posted 20 March , 2010 Share Posted 20 March , 2010 That is not a Cameronian soldier. He is a fusilier judging by his collar. The grenade is far too large for the RA one and the Cameronian (Scottish rifles) did not wear them.
Graham Stewart Posted 20 March , 2010 Share Posted 20 March , 2010 Agree with Max and a closer look at his helmet appears to show a horse hair plume being worn on it's right hand side. Enlarging the collar badges and helmet could help us out here, but the size of those collar badges to me would indicate "Royal Fusiliers" and possibly post-War.
