Graham Stewart Posted 17 March , 2010 Share Posted 17 March , 2010 I'll hazard a guess and this and say either Volunteer or Militia Artillery. They are wearing officers blue patrols and from the shoulder strap of the rather odd looking "sub" at the rear left, they have the addition of either a 'V' or 'M' to denote this. squirrel Posted 17 March , 2010 Share Posted 17 March , 2010 They appear to be wearing black crepe arm bands so the photograph may have been taken before/after a military funeral. Hence the dour look - understandably.
Graham Stewart Posted 18 March , 2010 Share Posted 18 March , 2010 The black crepe worn by all officers was usually for the death of a sovereign rather than a fellow officer.
high wood Posted 18 March , 2010 Share Posted 18 March , 2010 Which would seem to date the photograph to either 1901 or 1910.
