Hi,

I've been going through an old tin of family photo's passed down to me and come across these two chaps. I've an idea which side of the family they are from, however thats about it. The uniforms don't looks British, maybe you guys can shed some light on them? I've included a close up of the badge also.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi I`ll go first. I am sure the badge on his sleeve is that of a Range Taker.?and Lance Corporal ( Bombardier Royal Artillery.?)

Those are the British WW1 issue tropical uniforms. If you do a close up of the shoulder title just above the rangefinders badge it should be possible to get the unit (almost certainly one of the Artillery regiments) from the looks of things.

Don't worry about the rank chevron ...... several war-time 1914-1918 varieties exist.

The R wreath badge is a very good example of the newly-introduced 1st class Rangetaker badge, Royal Artillery or MG troops.

I've attempted a close up but it's not very clear at all... I've even had a close look at the original photograph but it's no better.
