rob emmerson Posted 14 March , 2010 Share Posted 14 March , 2010 Hello Forum pals, hope this finds you all well. On another thread on this great forum, I'm finding out about a Officer of the above Regiment, Capt William Reginald Frend. Sadly he was KIA on the 21 09 1914, I was wondering if anything specific was written in the Regimental diary for that day. Any help will be much appreciated. Many thanks, take care. Andrew Hesketh Posted 14 March , 2010 Share Posted 14 March , 2010 I have the story of William Barringer of 2nd Sherwoods who was killed the day before on my website (now defunct). The link is here and includes the full 'back-story' up to that date. http://www.derbyshirelads.uwclub.net/Men/w...m_barringer.htm [http://www.derbyshirelads.uwclub.net/Men/henry_styring.htm for related story]
rob emmerson Posted 15 March , 2010 Author Share Posted 15 March , 2010 ANDREW HESKETH. Thank you Andrew for all your help here with this matter. The Derbyshire lads 'back story' is very informative, a real story of hardship and bitter fighting. Take care mate and thanks once again, Bob
Andrew Hesketh Posted 15 March , 2010 Share Posted 15 March , 2010 You're welcome. I forgot to add that the account, whilst focused on the events of 20 September does go beyond that. As you will have read, the 2nd Sherwoods were on the receiving end of lengthy German artillery bombardments on the 21st and Capt. Frend was most probably a victim of that. Andrew Hesketh Posted 15 March , 2010 Share Posted 15 March , 2010 Also I can add that Frend was an adjutant.
rob emmerson Posted 15 March , 2010 Author Share Posted 15 March , 2010 Thanks again Andrew, I now know through the good people of this forum quite a lot about Capt. Frend, including a photo of the Gentleman. It was just what happened on that specific date, a fascinating read and many thanks once again, Bob
