Anyone seen another ''' WW1 ''' tunic on ebay ? Late war, made for regulars, holes for medal bars, ( thats a new one ) extra pleat added in, different coloured epouletts, lined pockets. in other words a ' 22 ' pattern messed about with. Plenty of bidders tho.

mind you, there are bargains ....... Foot Guards Home Service Tunic [scarlet full dress] Good Conduct 4-bar chevron ......... and only Grumpy recognised this 'rank' badge for what it was. Very rare item, for 18 years undetected crime.

Horrid innit.

Personally, I don't think this seller is a cynical one; just doesn't have a first clue about what they're selling - despite being a militaria 'specialist' - a lot of the time. That, combined with a whiff of know all. I've emailed to try to correct misdescriptions in the long past; and got a faintly hubristic-meets-indifference 'know best' response.

GT.

I went to a film prop sale years ago and they had a batch of post war SD tunic that had been altered for the TV drama Colditz, I think they were supposed to be Polish tunics, IIRC they had blue or green collars and shoulder straps. This could be one put back to more normal configuration.

Charles Foz was a theatrical costumier.

The jacket has almost certainly bobbed up from the recent Angels sale. We bought quite a few and several had Chas. Fox labels.

Don't think that different coloured shoulder straps and collars always mean that they have been cobbled together. I have a splendid 1917 11/KOSB jacket (shown) which has panels of many different colours. I doubt that matching material was too much of a concern at the time.

Mind you, I also have an unissued 1954 OR shirt which has a khaki body and a green collar and sleeves, so it wasn't only confined to wartime production.

Cheers,

Taff
