Hi All

A lady in Liverpool has contacted me trying to find info on her Great Uncle.

William Wainwright

Private 113307, The King's (Liverpool Regiment)

died 09/04/1920, aged 38.

Son of Thomas Wainwright, of 20, Grampian Rd., Edge Lane, Liverpool, and the late Frances Wainwright.

Buried at St Anne's. Churchyard, Stanley, Liverpool.

I have checked ancestry. Service records are just a couple of sheets and give no further info, nothing for the pension records.

SDGW dont list him.

He died in 1920 so probably from wounds or the Flu epidemic?

The lady is going to send for his death certificate.

Any idea where I could look for info on him in the Army please?

Cheers

Ant

I suggest dropping Promenade a line - he was extremely helpful (as were others, of course) when I was helping a friend with research on this regiment:-

You say his records are only a couple of pages - have you got this set?

Name: William Wainwright

Estimated birth year: abt 1882

Age at Enlistment: 33

Residence: 20 Crampian [sic] Rd, Edge Lane L'Pool

Document Year: 1915

Regiment Name: Res 7th KLR

Number of Images: 7

True, one or two pages are disappointingly blank and they are damaged, but there's some interesting info on there: I'm convinced it's the same man as it gives his father's name.

Ant,

You really should be pleased with what you have!

Information on such late enlistments is not common and I have corresponded with many people who have no information on men with such late numbers.

Combining the information from Ancestry with his death cert (interested on what it says - probably will be flu but you never know) you should more or less have the whole story. The only other avenue I can suggest, as you live in Liverpool, is to go down to the library in town and check out the newspapers - going out as far as 1920 was not a priority for me and I have no information on men who died so late.

Thanks Verrico and Pomenade.

I shall try the newspapers.

His headstone is in the churchyard so she has a photo of that now.

I await the death certificate.

Cheers
