JN Heddle Posted 11 March , 2010 Share Posted 11 March , 2010 Can anyone, please, help me out on this conundrum ? The Oxford Rifles (Cdn Army Res) did not see action as a Unit, in WW I, but they perpetuate two Battalions of the Cdn Exped For, that, at least got as far as England. Here, they (71st & 168th Bns, CEF) were broken-up, in order to supply reinforcements to the fighting Battalions of the Cdn Corps in France. As a result, neither the 71st or the 168th Bns, CEF, received any Battle Honours. However, in 1930, the Oxford Rifles were granted the following 7 Battle Honours (via List 3, pg 6, GO 71 / 1930) for emblazonment : SOMME 1916. ARRAS, 1917; '18. HILL 70. YPRES, 1917. AMIENS. HINDENBURG LINE. PURSUIT TO MONS. These honours had to have come from somewhere and to have involved a stipulated number of Ox Rif personnel in some fighting Battalion. The real question is how do I ferret-out this answer ? And, yes, I believe it will be a long and tedious process. But where do I begin and progress to a conclusion ? via con Dios JN Heddle
