Hi there Rich M,

You are a lucky person his service record as survived and is available on Ancestry. co .uk and there are 31 pages of them.

At his attestation he gave his address as Ancoates Lane Manchester, and his job was a raincoat maker.

He was in the RAMC, TF, so he was a pre war territorial soldier.

I have not read the rest but it is there.

Cheers Roger.

His full name is Henry Bland.

Hi Roger,

We cross-posted. I read it as a clerk employed by Nicholson Raincoat [something] and that he was born at Ancoates, residing at 6 Selby St, Worsley [Hills], Ardwich.

Not a problem Louise, I was just giving a flavour of the records, I didn't fully read the first page, just the top to ascertain it was him.

Now I have an hour to spare I will go back and read it more fully.

Cheers Roger.

Hi Rich M,

Just a quick tidy up of the first page,

He was born at Ancoates, Manchester, Lancs(not Lane),

He was a clerk,

Nicholson Raincoat Co, it looks like Worsley(something)

6, Selby Street, Ardwick, Manchester.

He joined in February 1914, before the war.

The papers you want to be searching looks like bieng the Manchester Evening News, or the Manchester Guardian as it was called then.

I dont have access to the 1911 census so I cant help on that score.

Cheers Roger.

In 1911 he's living at 6 Selby Sreet, Ardwick, Manchester and is a Grocers Assistant.

Living with 6 of his siblings (aged 27 - 14) - his sister is shown as head of the house (no parents isted), all children are working
