MartinThwaite Posted 11 March , 2010 Share Posted 11 March , 2010 Anyone able to assist please. My grandfathers boyhood friend Len Holgate of Barrowford emigrated to NZ before the war,he lived in Takapoona. Last seen by my grandfather prior to attack by Guards Div at Ginchy 15 Sep 1916. Interested to know NZ infantry in the line around that time. Regards
Ken Lees Posted 11 March , 2010 Share Posted 11 March , 2010 The NZ Division attacked on 15th September, 1916 from Longueval towards Flers, a short distance west of Ginchy.
Herekawe Posted 11 March , 2010 Share Posted 11 March , 2010 I am guessing that is Takapuna on the Nth Shore of Auckland Harbour - part of Auckland city. See if you can get a copy of "On My Way to the Somme" by Andrew Macdonald - covers the NZers on the Somme well. James

Robert Dunlop Posted 14 March , 2010 Share Posted 14 March , 2010 Coyle Street is in Sandringham, Auckland. The area used to be known as Edendale. It is south of Takapuna, the 'other' side of the Harbour Bridge Robert
MartinThwaite Posted 15 March , 2010 Author Share Posted 15 March , 2010 Robert & Zack, Definately my man! His UK address was Garnett Street, Barrowford near Nelson Lancs - roughly next door to my grandad's home address. Many thanks for this priceless info, I'll now take a look at what 2nd NZRB got up to. Much obliged, Martin
