According to his Medal Card Donald first served as Pte 5232 Fraser in the Lovat Scouts then S/27410 in the Cameron Highlanders. There is one record for a 5232 Pte Donald Fraser below click on the link below then on "View Record" to look at the record and it will ask you to take out a 14 day trial, just remember and cancel it. http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.d...9%7C_F0003FD9_x There are 3 Service records for Donald Fraser on Ancestry with service number 27410 rather than S/27410 so they could be him, 2 match cameron Highlanders, follow the link below. http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.d...3%7C_F0003CA3_x This one is for his Medal Card, once you get it, let the pals know and we'll give you links that explain it. http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.d...p;_F0003FD9_x=1 As for your Father mate you'd have to contact the MOD as they still hold WW2 service records, you'd also have to complete Next of Kin forms, read this link. http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/AboutDef...cePersonnel.htm Sam
roughdiamond Posted 9 March , 2010 Share Posted 9 March , 2010 Bill A bit more on the Lovat's Scouts Yeomanry, follow this link, it is most likely he was in the 1/1st, 1/2nd, 2/2nd or 3/2nd who all went to Gallipoli then Egypt where they became the 10th (Lovat's Scouts) Bn the Cameron Highlanders which would explain his new Bn and service number, then it was off to Salonika and finally France, click the link. http://www.1914-1918.net/lovats1.htm

Hopefully Bill will have luck with the service records, if he enlisted Beauly, going by the LLT link below he was probably D Squadron. http://www.1914-1918.net/lovats1.htm Sam

The information has been most informative and I appreciate the links to Donald Fraser's records. I ran into a problem when registering with Ancestry however, as I do not have a credit card and never have. I submitted my bank card No but that was not acceptable. I would be interested to know if there is someone out there who can assist that has access to Ancestry. I would prefer to make a donation of $50 towards the Great War Forum's worthy cause as a token of my appreciation. I hope I do not offend anyone by requesting this task, and apologise if I am out of order. I am new to this computer technology and sometimes it can be overwhelming. Yours In Anticipation, Bill Fraser Down Under.
