Peter Doyle Posted 8 March , 2010 Share Posted 8 March , 2010 Picked this up on the weekend, a nice football league winner's medal to Sapper Briggs of the Guards Division Signal Company, RE, whose team won the inter-section footie league, 1917–18 season. It comes with an excellent enamel Divisional Badge. Just got me thinking, there must be a diversity of such things out there. Given the busy schedule the Guards Division had from 1915 onwards - where and when did they play the matches? In Reserve, out on rest? Or just the rear echelon chaps? Just wondered... Peter Doyle Posted 8 March , 2010 Author Share Posted 8 March , 2010 On the 'All seeing eye' of the Guards Division, just the word 'Depose' (trademark in French), text on the silver medal: Guards Divisional Signal Co Winners Inter-Section Football League Season 1917–18', the other side of that having a simple design and little tablet bearing the initials of the soldier JGB (John G Briggs, RE). Cheers Peter

Cheers Peter Looks like Birmingham Silver for 1915 not sure of maker, thought it was AWG Ltd but not sure, they made Fobs, which it looks like. Peter Doyle Posted 8 March , 2010 Author Share Posted 8 March , 2010 Makes sense; maybe this is a fob that was modified as a football medal! Cheers Peter
