I currently have a post running regarding a distant relative of mine, 9285 Private Edward Beech, 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who was killed 16th June 1915. I have some queries regarding his enlistment.

. As far as is known Edward lived only in Nottingham, but he is shown as enlisting in Gravesend, why would this be the case?

. Why would someone who enlisted in Gravesend be posted to the Northumberland Fusiliers?

. If he did serve as a regular, what would have been his minimum enlistment term?

. Were the Northumberland Fusiliers based in the Gravesend area prior to the war or was it one of their recruiting areas, which would seem strange?

Any help would be appreciated.
