John Beech Posted 7 March , 2010 Share Posted 7 March , 2010 I currently have a post running regarding a distant relative of mine, 9285 Private Edward Beech, 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who was killed 16th June 1915. I have some queries regarding his enlistment. . As far as is known Edward lived only in Nottingham, but he is shown as enlisting in Gravesend, why would this be the case? . Why would someone who enlisted in Gravesend be posted to the Northumberland Fusiliers? . If he did serve as a regular, what would have been his minimum enlistment term? . Were the Northumberland Fusiliers based in the Gravesend area prior to the war or was it one of their recruiting areas, which would seem strange? Any help would be appreciated. Muerrisch Posted 9 March , 2010 Share Posted 9 March , 2010 What the reference does not say is that regular recruitment on 7 and 5 terms never ceased.
