ForeignGong Posted 3 March , 2010 Share Posted 3 March , 2010 Hi All In the local paper today was a photo & article about Claude Choules, claiming he was the last suviving veteran to serve in both world wars. The article claims he served two years in the Royal Navy & saw the German Navy surrender at Scarpa Flow. He later settled in Fremantle, Western Australia & joined the RAN to serve in WW2. By the way he turned 109 today. So, I ask the question is he the last or does anyone know of another ???? Peter
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 11 March , 2010 Share Posted 11 March , 2010 As the survivors from WWI are now very thin on the ground I doubt there is much competition! The UK National Archives also states the same Claude Stanley Choules is the only known remaining British First World War veteran, and the only surviving veteran in the world to have served in both world wars. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...39;s%20Services His RN service register is online: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/dol/ima...adm-188-767.pdf
