drumberny Posted 2 March , 2010 Share Posted 2 March , 2010 Do you mean the letters of Wesley and Billy Maultsaid of 10Bn. RIF? If you do then I have them but I would need to ask their nephew for permission to forward them and would need your email. He might want to know what you want them for. babrabas Posted 2 March , 2010 Author Share Posted 2 March , 2010 Thanks for the information, yes I do mean the Jim Maultsaid diaries. But I have checked and I know that they are currently not at the Royal Ulster Rifles Museum.
Desmond7 Posted 2 March , 2010 Share Posted 2 March , 2010 Mmmm..was that a question to Terry Nelson (who I think is now curator)? Via phone or in person? I have also heard they are putting stuff in stock for a move sometime? They were the last known holders of the diary. Maybe back with the family? Or with Somme centre? Rather surprised to hear this .. maybe some other NI members will shed light. Have you seen the 1980s version brought out in the 'Deathless Story ..' series? babrabas Posted 2 March , 2010 Author Share Posted 2 March , 2010 No I havn't seen the 'Deathless Story ..' series, what is it? Thanks
Desmond7 Posted 2 March , 2010 Share Posted 2 March , 2010 Kind of 'mini version' published around Belfast in the mid-80s. Proper title was 'Deathless Story of the Somme' was a split between Maultsaid's diaries and Cyril Falls.

Desmond7 Posted 3 March , 2010 Share Posted 3 March , 2010 Sorry, no I haven't. Did the RUR museum people just say they did not have them?

rob elliott Posted 10 March , 2010 Share Posted 10 March , 2010 Rossey, My understanding is that the diaries are back with a member of Jim's immediate family, having been removed from the RUR museum. I think this happened a couple of years ago now but has only recently come to light. I have spoken to Jim's relation [the one drumberny refers to] about this last year and he too had been unaware they had gone back to the family. I don't think they will be available for reference at present. Isn't the correct name for the diaries 'Star shells and recollections' or is it 'reflections'?
