espiegle Posted 13 May , 2004 Share Posted 13 May , 2004 Alfred Taylor is listed in CWGC as being buried in Lillers Cemetery, France having died of wounds on 2.3.17. However on CWGC his unit is listed as 1st Aircraft Acceptance Park which was in Coventry. Does anyone have any ideas about where he might have been serving in order to get killed in France ? Dolphin Posted 13 May , 2004 Share Posted 13 May , 2004 AMII Alfred Thomas Taylor served in the 1st Army Aircraft Park based at Lillers, and commanded by Major N Goldsmith. In early 1917 the unit was part of the RFC's Headquarters Brigade, comprising the 1st (Corps) Wing, the 10th (Army) Wing and the 1st Balloon Wing. Perhaps there was some confusion caused by the different units using the abbreviation 'AAP'.
espiegle Posted 14 May , 2004 Author Share Posted 14 May , 2004 Thank you Dolphin, his death in France now makes sense! As he died of wounds, could he have been a flier ?or is it more likely from an air raid. Andrew
Dolphin Posted 14 May , 2004 Share Posted 14 May , 2004 I think an air raid is the most likely cause of death. The 1st AAP wasn't an operational unit so its personnel wouldn't have been required to fly.
