Assuming this is a RAF uniform...

Hi folks,

Attached is a photo of my granddad's cousin Bill Thurkettle (together with friend!) taken in Eqypt shortly after the war. As far as I'm aware he was in the RAF (but didn't go overseas till after hostilities ceased, so not entitled to war medals). If the uniform he's wearing is RAF, is there anything about it that gives a clue as to the date of the photo? I don't know the date or even year of his enlistment so the single good conduct stripe doesn't help me much!
