Andrew Hesketh Posted 11 May , 2004 Share Posted 11 May , 2004 It could be me.........but is the search facility on the Online Gazette a little useless? The man I'm looking for is 2nd Lt. L. Jacques, 10th Sherwood Foresters, MC & Bar. When I put in the surname (which is fairly unusual) and choose the 'Military Cross' option it finds no matches. 'Jacques' with no medals specified produces 187 matches. I could go wading through 187 matches I suppose........... Am I missing something? hmsk212 Posted 11 May , 2004 Share Posted 11 May , 2004 Hi Mark Would that be 16194 Cpl H. Craddock Durham Light Infantry DCM on 26/09/1916 ? If it is you must remember to type H then fullstop then space and then craddock. Steve
hmsk212 Posted 11 May , 2004 Share Posted 11 May , 2004 Hi Mark It appears that on 08/12/1916 16194 Cpl H. Craddock Durham Light Infantry also won an MM. Steve
Clive Maier Posted 11 May , 2004 Share Posted 11 May , 2004 London Gazette searching is notoriously quirky. An earlier thread gave some useful tips and links.

HIGHSPEN Posted 12 May , 2004 Share Posted 12 May , 2004 Can I join in for assistance ,please? My great uncle :- 2nd Lieutenant Robert Emmerson DLI On only two of his papers --MC has been written after his name. The others give no mention. I cannot "trace" him in the London Gazette. His surviving son is not aware of the award of the MC and he and I are anxious to find confirmation--if not the medal!!

chris.wight Posted 23 May , 2004 Share Posted 23 May , 2004 You can also trying searching with the person's service number. Highspen, I had a look but no luck. Have you looked at the medal index cards for your great-uncle? If not this would be your best bet.
