Hello,

Can anyone tell me if, and if so how, the pattern of a Gordon Highlanders officer's kilt changed between WW1 and WW2?

Thanks and cheers, Bill

Hi Bill,

No major differences that I have ever been aware of. Quality would be a clue. Some of the WW1 and earlier kilts are of very high quality as regards wool and lining materials.

In reality a worn 'WW2' kilt of good standard could easily look earlier. Don't forget the attempts during WW2 to restrict production and the wearing of kilts. Many older kilts would have been recycled by sons, relatives etc. WW1 Officers kilts have never been easy to find.

Once again, as with all privately purchased Officers kit, personal means had a great bearing on quality.

Hope this helps.
